Gerard Brown

Gerard Brown is a nationally recognized rodent control expert with more than 40 years of experience in environmental public health, including serving as Program Manager for the District of Columbia’s Department of Health’s Rodent and Vector Control Program for over 25 years.

As a native Washingtonian, Mr. Brown has dedicated his career to addressing urban pest challenges through education, prevention, and innovative environmental public health strategies.

Under his leadership at the District’s rodent and vector control program, Mr. Brown developed and implemented comprehensive rodent control plans built on the principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). His programs emphasized habitat modification, proper sanitation practices, monitoring systems, and training for property managers and city inspectors, where he and his team achieved 100% on-time response to rodent complaints, setting a high standard for municipal rodent control programs nationwide. His work has been recognized nationally, and the District’s successful rodent control program has often been cited as a model for other cities developing similar initiatives.

Mr. Brown developed strong partnerships between government agencies, private organizations, and community groups related to rodent control. These collaborations helped launch the District’s first Rodent and Vector Control Academy, providing education and training on effective rodent management strategies to.

In addition to his work addressing rodent issues, Mr. Brown led major public education campaigns to combat bed bug infestations. These efforts included organizing public summits, developing educational materials in multiple languages, producing public service announcements, and providing training for senior housing facilities, schools, healthcare providers, inspectors, and community organizations.

Mr Brown was recently featured in Pest Control Technology Magazine’s Annual Rodent Control Issue (August 2025) in an article titled “Working Towards a Safer, Rodent-Free D.C.”, highlighting the success of the Community Hygiene Program he created to eliminate rodent activity across the city.

By continuing to be an active voice in addressing rodent issues, Mr Brown regularly speaks with media outlets and community groups about effective strategies for reducing rodent populations and improving public health and safety.

Through The Rodent Man Consulting LLC, Mr. Brown can now share his decades of knowledge and experience with individuals and organizations seeking smarter, more effective and sustainable approaches to rodent control.
